What is Serverpod?

Serverpod is an open-source framework for building Flutter backends in Dart. It generates client calls from server endpoints and data models to keep app and server data types aligned.

How do Flutter and Serverpod differ?

Flutter handles interfaces and device capabilities; Serverpod handles server-side rules and data access. Sharing Dart does not replace server-side authorization.

How does it differ from handwritten API calls?

Generated Dart calls match endpoint inputs and results, reducing repeated address and serialization work. Authentication, acceptance checks, version compatibility and error handling still need explicit design.

What should buyers check?

Check the version, storage model, authentication and authorization, account ownership, deployment, backups and recovery. Verify that the receiving team can run both app and server in a new environment.

Frequently asked questions

Does Serverpod remove backend work?

No. Business rules, authorization, data structure and the operating environment still require design, development and verification.

Does choosing Serverpod determine running costs?

Costs depend on compute, storage, traffic and external services. A framework choice alone does not establish operating cost.
